Why does the Catholic Church continue to allow this annual charade?

Chocolate fountains, photo booths and balloon arches trigger an allergic reaction in me

Sir, – My seasonal allergies have flared up again and cannot be cured with an over-the-counter pill. It’s not hay fever season that’s bothering me, it’s First Communion season.

Chocolate fountains, photo booths, balloons arches, personalised bathrobes all for children who, let’s face it, aren’t taken to Mass every week. Why does the Catholic Church continue to allow this annual charade to take place? It’s not as though it offers a guarantee that these children will go to Mass each week. Most of them won’t darken the door of a church until their Confirmation day. And by then it’s time to start the whole charade again. – Yours, etc,

KARINA SHANLEY,
