Nairobi - A Saudi Arabian Airlines passenger aircraft made an emergency landing in Kenya yesterday after a hoax report that a crew member was carrying a grenade, Kenyan police said.

Police said the aircraft, which was carrying 16 crew and no passengers, was due to pick up travellers in Nairobi.

"There was a threat, a bomb hoax that one of the crew members had a grenade in his pocket and it would explode anytime," police spokesman Mr Peter Kimanthi said.

"It landed safely, they were searched and there was nothing."

Police said the aircraft landed at 5.48 p.m. local time and was preparing to leave Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with crew and passengers who joined the flight.
