Phone services in Dublin were seriously disrupted for hours today due to a fault in an eircom exchange.

The Crown Alley exchange in the Temple Bar area of the city experienced a "small problem" which caused "interrupted service" to the city centre, according to an eircom spokeswoman.

However, faults have been also reported in Inchicore and areas of Dublin 8.

The spokeswoman said the problem has now been resolved.
