A courier was refused a taxi licence by Judge Sean MacBride yesterday after an officer of the Criminal Assets Bureau said he believed he was "an active criminal".

Mr John McGrail (35), of St Theresa's Gardens, Dublin, was appealing a decision of the Carriage Office to refuse to give him a public service vehicle licence. Dublin District Court heard he had 25 previous convictions, including for possession of firearms.
