German drug giant Bayer agreed to supply the US government with up to 300 million tablets of the antibiotic Cipro at discounted price, the company said today.

Cipro is used in treating cases of anthrax infection.

The US government wants to boost the national stockpile of antibiotics to have the ability to treat 12 million people for anthrax for 60 days. Current supplies are enough for about 2 million people.
