Calls to premium rate services are set to fall significantly - by around one-third in some cases, following a decision by Eircom to reduce its rates.

The rates apply to special numbers such as those supplying horoscope and weather forecast information, according to Eircom. It follows discussions between Eircom and the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation (ODTR).

Eircom is reducing what it charges companies who provide these premium rate services - by one-third to one-half of current rates. Some of these savings are expected to be passed onto consumers.
